How We Use Lasers
DIAGNOdent®
Sometimes cavities can be hard to detect on an x-ray if they are hidden in crevices or by large fillings. We utilize a DIAGNOdent® laser to help diagnose cavities in teeth. It uses a pain-free laser light to scan the density of the tooth to find areas of decay. This laser is extremely helpful in preserving tooth structure before the decay turns into a bigger problem by destroying more of the tooth or allowing the decay to reach the root.
Soft-Tissue Lasers
Soft tissue lasers have many uses both in cosmetic and periodontal treatment. They can be used to re-contour the gum line in your smile by helping to improve uneven tissue. They are also effective tools in fighting periodontal disease by precisely treating infected gum tissue. Periodontal treatment is so comfortable anesthetic is usually not required. We provide special laser eyewear to protect from the bright lights and laser energy during your treatment.
Hard-Tissue Laser
In our Redlands office, a hard-tissue laser can often be used in place of a drill or handpiece. The laser first puts out a cold water spray to help numb the tooth often eliminating the need for any anesthetic. Then the laser energy precisely removes the decayed area and sterilizes it. The tooth can then be filled with a tooth colored esthetic material.
